Fonts are globally set up in a CSS var() - unable to add as custom font

I have my fonts globally set up in a css var() - (the font class is generated, @next/font). I’m trying to set a font token to var(--font-sans) - my workaround was to add it as a custom font but it doesn’t seem to like it
